Open email links in Gmail or Outlook on the web
Click an email address and write from the right inbox, not the Mail app.
The short answer
On a Mac, clicking an email address opens the Mail app, even if you use Gmail or Outlook in a browser. Set Bouncer as your email handler, and those links open a new message in the webmail you choose, in the browser and profile you choose. A rule can send some addresses somewhere else, like emails to @client.com to your client’s Outlook.
How to set it up
- Install Bouncer. In its General settings, set Email Handler to Bouncer.
- Set Fallback Email to your webmail: Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo Mail, Fastmail, Proton Mail, or AOL Mail. Then choose the browser and profile under Open in.
- To send some addresses elsewhere, add a rule with an example link like mailto:anna@client.com, choose Emails to @client.com, and pick where it opens.
- Prefer an app for some mail? A rule can open Apple Mail or any other email app instead.
Questions
No. Bouncer handles web links and email links in the same app, with the same rules.
Yes, if each account is in its own browser profile. Make your personal profile the fallback. Then add a rule for the people you write to at work, like Emails to @company.com, that opens Gmail in your work profile.
Outlook on the web for work and school accounts, at outlook.office.com. Outlook and Proton Mail don’t take the cc and bcc fields from the link, and Proton Mail opens the first account you’re signed in to.
