Air Traffic Control for Dia and Arc
Links from Slack, Mail, and every other app open in the right Dia profile or Arc space.
Sound familiar?
In Arc, Air Traffic Control sent each link to the right space. Dia has nothing like it. So a link you click in Slack opens in whichever Dia profile you used last, and you copy it over to the right one by hand, many times a day.
The short answer
Bouncer becomes your default browser and does Air Traffic Control’s job, in Dia and in Arc. A rule opens a link in the Dia profile or Arc space you pick. It can match the link, the app you clicked it in, or the Slack workspace or Mail account. Links that match no rule open in the profile or space you choose as the fallback.
How to set it up
- Install Bouncer and make it your default browser. It finds your Dia profiles and Arc spaces on its own.
- Let Bouncer control Dia and Arc. Click Set up Dia or Set up Arc during setup, or Grant Automation Access in Settings > Browsers, and click Allow when macOS asks.
- Make a rule for each Air Traffic Control route you had. Start from an example link, like a Google Docs URL, and choose a Dia profile or Arc space under Open in....
- To split by where you clicked, set From... to Slack and pick the workspace, or to Mail and pick the account. Docs from your work Slack then open in Work, and Docs from everywhere else go to your fallback.
- Set your Fallback Browser to Dia or Arc, and pick the profile or space for links that match no rule.
Questions
No. Bouncer’s rules do the same job, in Dia and in Arc. They can also match the app, Slack workspace, or Mail account a link came from, not just the link.
Yes. Make two rules for Docs links: one from Slack that opens your Work profile, and one from Mail that opens Personal. A rule can also pick one Slack workspace or one Mail account.
Dia 1.50 or later. Bouncer picks the profile through Dia’s own AppleScript, so it needs the Automation permission for Dia.
Your rules keep working. Bouncer tracks each space by Arc’s own ID, not its name, so a renamed space, or two spaces with the same name, still open the right one.
Yes. Hold Option as you click a link to get a picker with every browser, Dia profile, and Arc space, each with a shortcut key.
Velja can’t open a link in a Dia profile or an Arc space. Its site says Arc and Dia don’t support the flag it uses to pick a profile. Bouncer opens both, and adds rules by Slack workspace and Mail account. See the full comparison.
