Open Google links with the right Google account

Docs, Drive, and Meet links that open signed in as the right you.

Sound familiar?

You have a work Google account and a personal one, or one for each client. You click a Google Docs or Meet link in Slack or Mail, and it opens signed in as the wrong account. Then you hunt for the account switcher, or Google tells you to request access.

The short answer

The reliable fix is one browser profile for each Google account. Then Bouncer sends each Google link to the right profile: Docs from your work Slack to “Work”, Maps to “Personal”. A rule can match the link, the app you clicked it in, or the Slack workspace or Mail account.

How to set it up

  1. Give each Google account its own browser profile, and sign in to only that account there.
  2. Install Bouncer and make it your default browser.
  3. The next time a Google link opens in the wrong profile, open the Bouncer menu and choose Create Rule from “…”. Pick the right profile and save.
  4. To split by where you clicked, set From... to the app, and pick the Slack workspace or Mail account if you need to. For links that always belong to one account, like Google Maps and your saved places, match the link alone.

Questions

Yes. Start a rule from a Meet link, choose any Google Meet link, and pick your work profile.

Yes. Make one rule for Maps links that opens your personal profile, and one for Docs links that opens your work profile.

No. Bouncer is a Mac app that becomes your default browser, so it sees every link you click outside a browser and sends it to the right profile.

Both can send Google links to a profile by site or by app. Bouncer can also split them by Slack workspace or Mail account, so Docs from two clients’ Slack workspaces open in two profiles. Velja can’t. See the full comparison.
